Terrace Surveyors Ltd is an independent RICS regulated practice founded by Richard Gilmore MRICS.

Richard combines over a decade of experience in building surveying and heritage consultancy, having previously worked as a specialist Heritage Consultant before qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Holding a degree in Heritage Conservation and with extensive experience of historic and listed buildings, Richard provides practical advice that balances conservation principles with modern building requirements.

The practice acts for private owners, trustees, charities, property professionals and commercial clients, with experience ranging from modest period cottages through to Grade I listed buildings and Scheduled Monuments.

Richard is also a Panel Consultant to the Almshouse Association and regularly undertakes quinquennial inspections and conservation projects for historic almshouse charities throughout the South West and Midlands.

Richard Gilmore MRICS founded Terrace Surveyors Ltd. in 2024 to combine his heritage planning experience with technical building surveying expertise, offering tailored services for properties in the Cotswolds and Regency Cheltenham. The practice reflects his focus on providing practical advice that respects the unique character of historic buildings.

As a Chartered Building Surveyor and Heritage Consultant, Richard specialises in period and listed buildings, drawing on a strong foundation in Heritage Conservation (BSc Hons) and Building Surveying (MSc). He has extensive experience managing a variety of projects, including the renovation of historic properties for the University of Oxford, capital works at Gloucester Docks, and sensitive refurbishments of Cotswold vernacular buildings. The work of the practice spans different sectors, including residential, commercial, education, and public heritage.

Richard’s expertise includes defect diagnosis, planned maintenance, and Contract Administration/Employer’s Agent. He has also prepared detailed feasibility reports and worked on significant heritage assessments, such as Shrewsbury Registered Battlefield Supplementary Planning Guidance and Conservation Management Plans for highly designated assets. He frequently liaises with stakeholders, including Historic England and conservation officers, to secure statutory consents and ensure projects are handled with sensitivity and professionalism.
